The attorneys at Oriol & Edler, LLC won a judgment for more than $250,000.00 against an insurance company who failed to timely pay an insurance claim. This judgment was in addition to another $94,000.00 judgment they obtained prior to the trial. In total, the attorneys at Oriol & Edler, LLC obtained a total of $352,867.73 on behalf of their client.
Janice’s home was damaged in Hurricane Gustave when a large pine tree fell through her roof which allowed a large opening through which a significant amount of rain went into the home. Much of the east side of the home was damaged, and most of the flooring throughout the home was destroyed.
Shockingly, the insurance company ignored the gaping hole ripped in the roof and side of the house, and instead blamed a small leak in a bedroom aquarium for the water damage in the home. The first judgment was mainly for the damages the client sustained to her home, while the second judgment was for penalties against the insurance company for refusing to pay the initial claim.
Janice was thrilled at the outcome of the case, and the representation she received from her attorneys.
“These cases can be difficult, but there are laws in place to punish insurance companies who wrongly deny claims, or pay less than the full value of the claim. Before we were hired, this insurance company paid less than $10,000.00 on a $100,000.00 storm damage claim. Hopefully, this insurer will treat their customers more fairly in the future,” said David Oriol, lead counsel for Janice.
